Question:Can I still borrow books during the library renovation? Last Updated: Apr 11, 2018 Views: 28
The short answer is yes! You will absolutely be able to check out books while the library is being renovated.
While much of the OWHL's collection is in storage for the duration of the renovation, there are still many ways to get the books you need for your research assignments and pleasure reading.
Books from the OWHL
Portions of the OWHL's collection are still available for check-out to members of the PA community. A search of the OWHL catalog will show you the books that are currently available.
In order to check out a book, simply click the "Place Hold" button at the top right of the book record. You will then be prompted to enter "Your Library Card Number or Username" and a "Password or PIN." The Library Card Number is the number on the back of your BlueCard (your student ID number). The PIN is a 4-digit number that you need to request at the Circulation Desk.
You will receive an email once your book is available for pick up.
Books from Other NOBLE Libraries
Because the OWHL is part of NOBLE (North Of Boston Library Exchange), you have access to over three million books in the collections of 27 other local public libraries and colleges. To include these NOBLE collections when searching the catalog, simply change the third dropdown menu option from "Phillips Academy" to "NOBLE (All Libraries."
Once you find a book that you want, click the "Place Hold" button at the top right of the book record. You will then be prompted to enter "Your Library Card Number or Username" and a "Password or PIN." The Library Card Number is the number on the back of your BlueCard (your student ID number). The PIN is a 4-digit number that you need to request at the Circulation Desk.
Any book(s) that you request from other NOBLE libraries take 3-5 business days to arrive if they are currently marked as "available." You will receive an email once your book(s) arrive.
eBooks & Audiobooks
The OWHL has thousands of eBooks and audiobooks available for checkout. You can find all of them through the library catalog, where with just a few clicks you can read the books online and/or download them to your device. For even more popular fiction and nonfiction titles in either eBook or audiobook format, you can search NOBLE OverDrive.
Still didn't find the book you wanted?
Let us know! The OWHL offers interlibrary loan (ILL) services, so if you can't find what you are looking for please get in touch. We can look to find the book(s) you need at libraries outside of the NOBLE network. This process takes a bit longer, so be sure to conduct your research well before the deadline!
